Teacher: Maria Rubio
I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I graduated from Archbishop Curley Notre Dame High School in 1986. I got my AA degree from Miami Dade Community College in 1992 and my BS degree from Florida International University in 1995. I have taught in both the Private School sector as well as the Public School Systems in Florida and North Carolina.
Teacher: Elena Novikova
Elena was born at Siberian city Tomsk, Russia. She finished high school and went to Ukraine for her first degree in Designer of Clothes from College Of Textile. She received a Master of Art and History from Tomsk State University. Elena has worked as Fine Art Restorer at Art Museum for more than 10 years. When her youngest daughter was born with Down syndrome in 1996, Elena started to work with disabled kids as an Art Teacher. Elena and her family moved to the USA in 2010. She began to work as an Art Therapist and Art Teacher at UCP in 2013.
Educational Coordinator: Jennifer Verde
Jennifer Verde graduated in 1980 from Eastern New Mexico University with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and Elementary Education with a minor in Language Arts. She started her teaching career in Cleveland, Ohio working at Children’s Aid Society, a residential treatment center for special needs children. She has been with UCO-UCP Transitional Learning Academy for 21 years where she continues teaching and working with staff to ensure the best educational experience for the students we serve.
